Kitchen fires pose unique problems because of the peculiar chemical nature of fats and oils used in the cooking process. Today's commercial kitchens can turn into an environment for fire risk due to the prevalence of hot cooking oils, fats, grease and other flammable substances, as well as high-energy input/output cooking appliances. The trend towards healthier foods has led to the use of fat-free vegetable oil instead of animal fat such as lard. Since vegetable oils burn hotter than animal fat, vegetable oil fires are also hotter and more difficult to extinguish. Moreover, modern cooking appliances are now highly insulated and slow-cooling. Thus, in order to protect the kitchen from fire accidents, there should be a fire suppression system that is properly designed to put out these hotter fires.

KITCHEN SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
Today's commercial cooking environments, with the popularity of low fat foods, require the use of hotter burning vegetable oils. This, coupled with highly insulated, slow-cooling appliances have increased the difficulty of extinguishing fires in these kitchens. Allied Fire & Safety can design, install and maintain restaurant & commercial cooking fire suppression systems from manufacturers such as Ansul, Amerex, Pyro-Chem and Kidde that will prevent and extinguish restaurant fires in these types of commercial cooking environments.
At each inspection we will secure system control head to prevent accidental discharge, remove agent storage cylinder, weigh and check for proper pressure and condition. Activate system by remote pull station and by cutting a fusible link. Replace all fusible links. Check operation of all automatic fuel shutoff devices. Reset all fuel, pull and cable activated devices and electrical components. Clean and reinstall cylinder. Restore system to set position. Prepare and forward directly to Owner and Local Fire Official, a comprehensive report of system condition

At each inspection all system components will be inspected and thoroughly tested for proper operation. Testing will include activation of all initiating devices ie: Smoke or Heat Detectors, Pull Stations and testing of all indicating devices as Horns, Strobes, Bells, etc. Auxiliary devices, such as Damper Closers, Fan Shutdowns, Door Closers, etc., will be tested. Detection-Abort-Discharge sequence will be tested for proper timing and operation. All system piping and nozzles shall be inspected. Agent quantity and pressure will be checked and appropriate tags filled out and affixed to cylinders and system.

INDUSTRIAL DRY CHEMICAL SYSTEMS
Dry Chemical Fire Suppression Systems are extremely effective low cost automatic fire suppression systems for Class A, B and C fires. The extinguishing agent is stored under pressure using dry nitrogen gas. The system is designed to protect a wide variety of hazards involving flammable liquids, gasses, wood, paper and energized electrical equipment. The system can be used on many hazards found in any industry.
Dry chemical extinguishing agents work by forming a blanket to exclude oxygen, heat absorption, chemical inhibition or a combination of these depending on which agent is used.
The system can be operated from automatic detection and/or manual actuation. Facilities are provided for shutting down electrical power and shutting down the flow of gas. The detection is by means of specifically rated mechanical fusible links or electric thermal detectors.

CO2 SYSTEMS
Carbon Dioxide is a colorless, odorless, electrically nonconductive gas with a density approximately 50% greater than air. It is stored in steel cylinders as a liquid under pressure. When applied to a fire, it provides a blanket of heavy gas that reduces the oxygen content of the atmosphere to a point where combustion becomes impossible. It also provides a cooling effect and leaves no residue. It dissipates into the atmosphere, allowing for rapid cleanup and minimal downtime. Systems are available in three methods of application: Total flooding, local application or hand hose line systems. Working with your personnel and design engineers, Allied Fire and our manufactures will design a system for your specific needs.
